Launching our feeds through Brightcove player version 3

Great news! We have managed to relaunch our xml feeds through the new version of the Brightcove player. Brightcove is a video player provider that is part owned by Sky News backer News Corp. Brightcove recently integrated with the Times and other News Corp publications as the new video delivery system. The recent upgrade from Version 2 to Version 3 meant we had to do some reprogramming on our side. Due to our recent success we are now in discussion to launch this Brightcove service throughout our European territories and Brightcove see us as an important content partner going forward. This is great news and we are all really excited at play about this exciting step forward.

Since the relaunch of our feed:
• We have updated the Scottish Tv (
STV.tv) with all the latest content
• We have just signed a contract with the Guardian to start using our feeds instead of our normal embed player. This will mean that all their journalists and editors will have access to our library of trailers, and eventually all the other EPK material we plan on syndicating on your behalf.
The Times have also implemented the feed

Times

In a statement from Brightcove CEO Jeremy Allaire.

“Times Online can now take advantage of Brightcove 3, our next-generation platform, to help deepen engagement with their 16 million online readers, expand online advertising opportunities and broaden their reach across the web”.

So we are looking to develop lots of traffic with this intersting business development opportunity. We are now working on other exciting integration and our contacts within Brightcove in the UK are actively helping us in this process of setting up trials with:
1. Hearst Digital
2. Bauer Group
3. Northecliffe Media (Daily Mail)
4. Conde Nast
5. Film4 and Channel 4

So far the response has been really excellent and we are expecting to have several new partners on board soon.

Hot, new, fresh Bebo film trailer channel!

Filmtrailer.com's Bebo Channel

Yes! It has happened! Filmtrailer.com got an all slick-looking, video-playing, fan-attracting Bebo film trailer channel!

Bebo is one of the biggest social networks in the world with over 80 million users, and we wanted to figure out a good way to get film trailers to them – the solutions was to be a part of Bebo’s Open Media platform. As it turns out Bebo is very video feed friendly, and unlike let’s say Facebook, it is not hard for a content provider like us to become a partner with Bebo and start attracting fans to our film trailer channel. We just uploaded an MRSS feed to them and voila it was up and running. Then we did some design changes to make it look as good as we could for the young and trend-conscious Bebo audience and we are now ready to become overwhelmed with Bebo love. We are actually the only channel dedicated to delivering film trailers to Bebo, and we have already had 1 luv, 35 fans and some comments about, of course, Twilight (it’s going to be a big big big teen film).

A big extra bonus is also of course that Bebo’s international strategy fits like a hand-in-glove with Play Networks’ as we can provide them local-language film trailers for the local-language Bebo sites in Italy, Germany, Holland, and soon Spain and France. Each country have its own filmtrailer.com Bebo channel and we expecting them to be really really popular in these countries as local-language trailers aren’t always easy to come by in such a good-looking package.

So now all you have to do is check us out at:

http://www.bebo.com/filmtrailer and give us some luv, become a fan, comment, or take a poll!

YouTube channel down but not out!

After months of hard work, care full administration and a growing fan base, YouTube pulled our channel with absolutely no warning.

Why …………………….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No warning. Nada, zip, didley squat! I was expecting at least an email, coupled with a reason and who we could protest against.

In discussions with major studio its come to our attention that there are people who sit in various legal and accounting departments that actively complain every time a trailer appears on Youtube when it falls outside of the normal syndication. The guys we work with (our UK represntitives in the various distribution companies) hate it, as it means that they can’t even seed their own campaigns online virally without someone from their own company pulling the trailer!

This is a classic example of Internet Illogic. Why would promotional material that is helping to promote your product, that has the potential to go viral, that is syndicated by a variety social networking and vodcasting sites and that will get more people watching the trailer, talking about it and hopefully pushing them one further step down the buying process toward buying the movie ticket or renting the DVD; be deemed by some bean counter somewhere as a threat?

Lawyers and accountants are an odd bunch. I remember hearing  a funny story from a friend of mine who told me about the music industry’s battle over international music rights and the early days of inflight entertainment. It became so wildely illogical that the London to Newyork service was forced to turn off the entertainment system while the plane flew over Iceland (a then unsecured territory).

Based on rough guess we have excluded certain film companies content from our new film trailer channel, while we go forward in making contact with various legal departments  to ask for syndication rights. We have resurrected our youtube channel which is under construction here and will be live with content shortly. Viva the free dissemination of promotional content on the Internet!
